Share the Gift of Water Update - Nakuru, Kenya Project

Dazzle's Share the Gift of Water project in the Rift Valley of Kenya is coming to an end and they will soon be expanding the project into Nakuru. By the end of this July, with the support of a growing number of Dazzle Dealerships, a number of Rotary Clubs across Canada, and matching grants from Rotary International and the Canadian Government - together they will have raised $330,000 which has funded 500 - ten thousand liter rainwater storage tanks... built by Village women. Each family will have built a latrine on each property, must have planted 100 trees (long term water retention) and invested $50 themselves to participate in the cost of the storage tank and eaves troughs. Each of the women and female children will no longer have to spend 6 hours a day - 7 days a week carting water on their heads. The girls now get to go to school and break the cycle of poverty. Each mother is offered "table financing" to start a small business to replace the time spent carting water - and the stories of how this is uplifting the women and their children are truly heartwarming.

Dazzle (Backyard Brands) received great acknowledgement by Rotary International's District in their newsletter talking about the collaboration between Dazzle Dealerships, Backyard Brands, Rotary Clubs, Rotary International and the Canadian government all working to make the Rift Valley Water Project a success. Dazzle has now been informed that later in June, on behalf of BYB and Dazzle Dealers, BYB will be given the Rotary International Paul Harris Award for their Share the Gift of Water Program and its impact on the Kenya community. Paul Harris was the founder of Rotary International and it is a rare privilege for the Share the Gift of Water Program. One of the oldest Rotary Clubs in Canada - the Toronto - Eglinton Club will be awarding it to Backyard Brand's Dennis Gray.
